Smith's Bible Dictionary (1863)

Cotton is now both grown and manufactured in various parts of Syria and Palestine; but there is no proof that, till they came in contact with Persia, the Hebrews generally knew of it as a distinct fabric from linen. [Linen]

Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible (1898)

COTTON is now grown in Syria and Palestine, and is preferred to linen for turbans and shirts. But there is no proof that the ancient Hebrews knew anything about it. The word occurs only in Esth 1:6, where the A.V. renders "green."
