Living by Faith, Not by Sight

Good morning, dear friends. As I write this from my study window overlooking the frost-covered fields of rural Ontario, I'm reminded that faith is much like the hidden roots beneath winter's surface—unseen but absolutely essential for life to flourish.

Living by Faith, Not by Sight
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." - Hebrews 11:1

Good morning, dear friends. As I write this from my study window overlooking the frost-covered fields of rural Ontario, I'm reminded that faith is much like the hidden roots beneath winter's surface—unseen but absolutely essential for life to flourish.

Faith isn't merely intellectual agreement with biblical facts. The writer of Hebrews describes it as confidence and assurance—active, living trust that transforms how we navigate each day. When we face uncertainty about our jobs, health, or relationships, faith anchors us not in wishful thinking, but in God's proven character.

Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that "without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Notice this isn't passive belief—it's earnest seeking, actively pursuing relationship with our faithful God.

How does this faith grow? Romans 10:17 tells us "faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ." As we regularly feast on Scripture, our confidence in God's promises deepens. When Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to "trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding," it's calling us to practical, daily dependence on Him rather than our limited perspective.

Living by faith means walking by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Even when circumstances seem impossible, Jesus reminds us that faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). Remember, we're saved by grace through faith—not by works—so this faith-walk flows from gratitude, not performance (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Today, whatever mountain you're facing, surrender your anxieties to the One who holds tomorrow in His hands.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that faith isn't something I must manufacture, but a gift You provide. Help me trust Your character when I cannot see Your plan. Strengthen my confidence in Your promises through Your Word. In Jesus' name, Amen.
